Appalachian Regional Commission Grant Funding

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a federal-state partnership that works with the people of Appalachia and their respective Local Development District such as OVRDC to create opportunities for self-sustaining economic development and improved quality of life by promoting regional strategies for partnerships, projects, and progress.

Since ARC’s inception in 1966, OVRDC has assisted in obtaining over $118,894,558 million for our communities from Federal and State Appalachian ARC grant awards. This funding has leveraged over $315,086,140 million in other local, state, and federal funds. The ARC program has made an incredible difference in our region with a return on investment of $3 dollars for every dollar invested.

Areas of focus include supporting a ready workforce, critical infrastructure, natural and cultural assets, and other priorities. The Pre-Application Deadline to submit projects to OVRDC is May 19, 2023. Please check our website for future announcements regarding specific dates, letters of intent, and guidelines.

Priority Goal Areas

In addition to meeting an ARC goal and a Governor’s Office of Appalachia (GOA) State Strategy goal, ARC projects considered for funding in the OVRDC district must meet one of the following priority areas:

1) Create and/or retain private sector jobs in the District
2) Extend or upgrade basic infrastructure to residents of the District (e.g., water or sewer service)
3) Expand quality health care services and education programs for residents of the District

NOTE: Eligible applicants for ARC funding include political subdivisions (county, city, village), educational institutions (school district and vocational school districts, colleges and universities), public institutions (port authorities, libraries), and non-profit organizations (community improvement corporations, social service agencies).
