ACS is now the source of Census Bureau socio-economic data.
The ACS replaces what was commonly referred to as the long form or the
sample portion of the decennial census. Annual updates of detailed
social, economic, demographic, and housing data are now available in
three types – one-year samples for areas of 65,000 or more population;
three-year samples for all areas of 20,000 or more; and five-year
samples for all areas, down to census block groups. Certain statistical
guidelines should be followed when using ACS data. We encourage our
users to familiarize themselves with those rules by reading our “General
Overview of ACS Data” and the large set of documentation available
through the Census Bureau websites below.
